Smoke-Infused Ice
Equipment
Ingredients
- 3¾ Cups Water
- 1 Cup Wood Chips Any flavored wood chip will work
Instructions
- Pre-heat smoker and add wood chips.1 Cup Wood Chips
- Place water in foil pan. I recommend filling your ice cube trays and pouring the water into the foil pan. This way you know you'll have enough water. Add an additiona 1/2 cup of water to tray to account for evaporation.
- Place foil pan with water in the smoker, and ensure there is enough wood chips.3¾ Cups Water
- Allow to smoke up to 2 hours. I wanted my cubes to be very smokey and I smoked for 2 hours.
- After 2 hours, remove the foil pan, and pour the water into the ice cube trays. Freeze cubes until solid. These will not be clear cubes.
- Enjoy the smoke-infused ice in your favorite cocktail or mocktail!

Angie’s Notes
- Try Smoke-Infused Ice in your favorite cocktail or mocktail!
- I chose cherry-flavored wood chips, but you can use any flavored wood chip you have.
- Want more smoke flavor? Start with frozen ice cubes in the foil pan and smoke from frozen, then re-freeze.
Why I Love This Recipe
First and foremost, having smoke-infused ice instantly elevates any drink! In addition to being pretty easy to make, using smoked ice provides a balanced smoke flavor to your drink. As the smoke-infused ice melts, it leaves behind the smokey flavor, so every sip is as good as the last!
Typically I’ll use 2-3 smoke-infused ice cubes for a drink, along with regular ice. I recommend starting with my recipe, and adjusting the smoke time and wood chip flavor based on your preferences. When you create your drink, try starting with 1 or 2 cubes, and adjusting as needed.
Tips For Smoke-Infused Ice
This was my first time making smoke-infused ice, and I have some tips that I wish I would have known beforehand.
- Start with frozen ice cubes for more smokey flavor
- If you can plan your drink ahead of time, think about which flavor wood chip you might want to use – for example – if I was making my spiced cherry mocktail, I would try to use cherry wood chips to really develop the cherry flavor in my mocktail
- I like to pair smoke-infused ice with a spritz of oil prior to drinking my mocktail – the oil awakens the nose and helps bring out the smoke flavor. Depending on your cocktail, you can simply express an fruit peel (orange, lemon, etc.) over the top of your drink, or if you happen to have essential oils on hand, 1 spritz on top of the drink will do the trick!
- For a visual treat, add smoke to your drink by using a cocktail smoker – this will take your cocktail up a level as you are including visual, smell and taste in 1 cocktail experience.
