Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400° and prep your baking sheet – I recommend lining with parchment paper and spraying with cooking spray.
  • Unwrap the puff pastry, and cut it in half so you have 2 smaller halves of the pastry. Keep in mind the way you cut the sheet will be how long your twists are. The halves should be equal in size.
1 sheet Puff Pastry Sheet (about 246 grams)
  • Mix together feta & sour cream and spoon onto half of the pastry, and place the half without the mixture on top of the other – making a sandwich. Cut the pastry sandwich into about 1"-1.5" strips. Pick up the strips at both ends and twist one end until you have a twist. Place the twisted pastry on the lined baking sheet.
⅓ cup Crumbled Feta Cheese, 1 Tablespoon Sour Cream
  • In a small bowl, beat the egg and add in the za'atar. Brush the pastry twists with this egg wash.
    1 Egg, 3 Tablespoons Za'atar
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown & lightly crisp.

Why I Love These Pizza Twists

These za’atar pizza twists look fancy but are surprisingly easy to make. You can easily make a batch on the weeknights for a pre-dinner snack, and make another batch for the weekend party! Satisfy your snack craving with these easy-to-make twists today. My favorite part of this recipe is how fancy these pizza twists look! When my husband saw these twists he asked me where I bought them from. I was shocked! You should have seen his face when I said I made them myself, and how easy they were to make. These twists quickly became a weekly tradition in our house.

I love pairing these twists with my homemade pasta sauce as a dip – it drives home the pizza flavor. You can make this recipe your own by mixing in shredded cheese (parmesan or mozzarella) to the feta cheese mix. If you don’t have za’atar, you can substitute it with an Italian seasoning blend in these pizza twists. Za’atar is a blend of savory & earthy spices and has many flavor profiles and textures, if you don’t have any, I would highly recommend purchasing za’atar.

If you wish the pizza twists had more salt flavor, I would recommend adding 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon of miso paste. Miso paste will add a depth of flavor and packs a salt punch but with less sodium than salt! Start with a little miso in the cheese mix, taste, and then add more if you think you need more. I use miso as a secret ingredient in all my cooking & baking – it’s an easy replacement for salt.

Recipes like these pizza twists that allow for customization are my favorite recipes.
