How To Easily Sprout Seeds
Sprouts are expensive, learn how to easily sprout seeds at home and never buy sprouts again! I don’t know if I’ll understand why sprouts are so pricey at the grocery store. The last time I purchased sprouts I ate every last one of them, and decided to look up how to grow my own. As a matter of fact, it is very easy to grow your own sprouts.
Sprouts don’t need any dirt to grow, only requiring seeds & water make them easy for anyone to grow in any space.
Supplies Needed To Easily Sprout Seeds
First, you will want to choose the sprout you’d like to grow. A variety pack like this is great for experimenting and determining which sprout you like best. If you truly enjoy the full grown version of the sprout, you will likely enjoy the sprouted version.
Second, find a jar and buy a sprouting lid, something like these lids work well. You can try using a handkerchief or fabric instead if you want to save money. You need a way to drain the water from the jar, but keep the sprouts in the jar.
Third, you’ll want a sunny place to keep your jar – a windowsill works great. Next, you will learn how to sprout seeds!
Angie’s Guide To Sprouting Seeds Using A Jar And Sprouting Lid
- The amount of sprouts you want to grow is up to you – I recommend starting with 1 tablespoon and seeing how much this makes and then adjusting from there – if you find you have too many sprouts, use less mix, if you want more sprouts, use more mix next time
- Wash sprouts by putting them in the jar, add water, and the lid then drain – I repeated 3 times. After the final rinse, add water and replace the lid. Let sit for 8-12 hours.
- Drain water and rinse then drain
- Every 3-6 hours you will need to rinse & drain
- On day 3 – move the jar to a well lit location
- Continue rinsing and draining every 3-6 hours
- Day 5 – harvest when the leaves are open and green
- I placed my sprouts on paper towel and removed as much moisture possible before placing in a bag in the crisper drawer
That’s it – after 5 days – you’ll have a large number of sprouts to enjoy over the next few days. Enjoy sprouts on sandwiches or salads, they also make a great addition to avocado toast.
